When Your Thoughts Start Running the Show
Lately, my mind has felt like a crowded room — constant movement, nonstop noise, and not nearly enough space to think clearly.
If I’m being honest, it’s not just a few thoughts here and there. It’s an all-day loop of what I haven’t done, what I should’ve done by now, and why I’m still behind. And when people chime in — even with good intentions — it can make that mental noise feel even louder.

You’re doing your best to stay focused on what God said, but your thoughts keep running in a completely different direction — toward fear, comparison, or doubt.
The truth is, most of our battles don’t start on the outside — they start in our minds.
And if we’re not careful, our thoughts will start running the show.
But here’s what I’ve been learning:
You can’t always control which thoughts arrive, but you can choose which ones get to stay.
2 Corinthians 10:5 says,
“We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
That means I don’t have to let my thoughts talk me out of what God already said.
It means when the lies come — the ones that tell me I’m not enough, too late, or too far behind — I can raise my thoughts.
Raising your thoughts means lifting them to God instead of letting them lead you.
It’s saying, “Lord, this is what my mind is telling me, but I choose to believe what Your Word says instead.”
Romans 12:2 reminds us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds — not the rehearsing of our worries.
And Philippians 4:8 gives us the blueprint for where our thoughts should rest:
“Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
This week, I’m working on raising my thoughts — choosing to think higher, even when the noise tries to pull me lower.
