Let God Be God

Lately, I’ve seen a lot of posts where people boldly declare who’s “going to heaven” and who’s “going to hell.”
And honestly, it’s been sitting heavy on my heart. Because the truth is — none of us hold that kind of authority.

We can share truth, yes. We can hold people accountable, yes.
But when we start speaking as if we sit on God’s throne, we’ve crossed into dangerous territory.

God alone searches hearts. He knows what’s seen and unseen. And while it’s easy to point fingers when we disagree with someone’s choices — that’s not our call to make.
It’s His.

The Bible says in James 4:12, “There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you—who are you to judge your neighbor?”

And in Matthew 7:1–2, Jesus reminds us, “Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Those verses stop me every time.
Because they remind me that every single one of us — pastors, leaders, influencers, and everyday people — will stand before the same God. The same righteous Judge.

We don’t get to decide who’s worthy of grace or forgiveness.
We don’t get to say who’s too far gone or who’s disqualified from mercy.

Only God can do that.

The moment we start condemning people as if heaven or hell is in our hands, we start forgetting how much grace it took to save us.

Let’s not be so focused on someone else’s flaws that we miss our own need for repentance.

When I see those judgmental posts, it makes me pause and ask myself — am I showing others the same patience and mercy that God has shown me?

Because if I’m honest, I’ve needed that mercy more times than I can count.

And maybe that’s the reminder we all need this week:
Before we point, pause.
Before we speak, pray.
Before we judge, remember Who the Judge really is.

Let God be God — because that’s not our call.
