Who Are You Fooling?
Do I really want God—or do I just want His help?
Lately, I’ve been doing the things:
✔️ Praying.
✔️ Reading the Word.
✔️ Showing up at church.
But it still felt… hollow. Like I was performing instead of connecting.
And then it hit me: I was seeking His hand—not His face.
What’s the difference?
Think about this:
If someone only came around when they needed something from you—never to actually know you—how would that make you feel?
Now flip it.
How often do we come to God just to ask for something?
✨ A breakthrough.
✨ A healing.
✨ A door to open.
✨ A battle to end.
And listen—there’s nothing wrong with asking. He’s a Good Father and wants us to bring our needs. But when that’s the only time we show up, we turn prayer into a transaction…instead of a relationship.
Psalm 27:8 says:
“My heart says of you, ‘Seek his face!’ Your face, Lord, I will seek.”
That’s intimacy. That’s love. That’s showing up for Him, not just for what He gives.
What Seeking His Face Looks Like
It’s not deep theology.
It’s not a perfect quiet time routine.
It’s this:
-
Sitting in silence just to be near Him.
-
Telling Him the truth in prayer, not just the pretty version.
-
Worshipping while washing dishes or driving to work—not just at church.
-
Saying, “Lord, I don’t have the words, but I want to be with You.”
Sometimes it’s messy.
Sometimes it’s quiet.
But it’s always worth it.
Why It Changes Everything
When you seek God’s face, you stop chasing spiritual performance—and start building spiritual intimacy.
You start to see Him not just as Provider, but as Presence.
Not just as Miracle-Worker, but as Father.
As Friend.
As Lord.
And the Word says when you seek Him with your whole heart—you will find Him. (Jeremiah 29:13)
Reflection Question:
If God were sitting across from you, would He feel like you love Him for who He is—or only for what He can do?
What’s one small, honest way you can seek His face this week?
