Follow Me

Follow Me

My church started a church-wide study this week. During my study time yesterday morning, the scripture hit differently. I heard the house song in my head—Follow Me, Follow Me, Follow Me. You know the one. That beat drops, and before you know it, you’re up dancing.

But as I read through Mark’s Gospel, that chorus wasn’t just a hook to dance to—it became a reminder.

I even looked it up, wondering if maybe it was a gospel track. Nope. Not gospel at all. But here’s the thing: God can use whomever, whenever, however, through whatever He wants. And that morning, He used a house song running through my mind to make His Word come alive.

Because the real invitation is to follow Jesus.

Mark 1:16–18 says:

As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow Me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed Him.

No hesitation. No excuses. No, “let me finish this up first.” Simon and Andrew dropped their nets immediately. And a few verses later, James and John did the same.

Can you imagine them hearing those words like a rhythm in their spirit? Almost like that familiar chorus pulsing: Follow Me, Follow Me, Follow Me. Only this time, it wasn’t a DJ—it was Jesus. And He wasn’t calling them to a dance floor, but to destiny.

It’s like Jesus saying:
“Why don’t you follow Me… to a place”

What nets are we still holding onto while Jesus is calling us forward?

  • The net of fear.

  • The net of doubt.

  • The net of other people’s approval.

  • The net of busyness that keeps me distracted.

Following Him means dropping those nets. And that’s not easy—it feels risky. But whatever He’s calling us to is always greater than what we’re leaving behind.

So now, every time I hear that old song, I’ll think of it differently. Not just a beat that makes me move, but a call that makes me follow.

Because Jesus is still saying:
“Follow Me.”
